Flimsy Friday Finish

Today I finished sewing down the binding on the baby quilt.  As we now know it is a girl I added a few flowers on it.

Yesterday I finished the sashing on the French Rose quilt.  I really like this one and may have to keep it for myself. That would be a change as the grands usually take anything I make.

On my dear Jane signature blocks, this flimsy is ready for this years blocks.  I had done a color pattern for 2010 and then just added 2011 around the outside. This years may just be another border.

New Baby Quilt - post 2

Well did anyone figure out what I was doing?  Yesterday I put the sashing on the top and hung it up on the design wall to take a picture. After looking at it for awhile I realized some of the blocks were in wrong, the triangle color was going in the wrong direction.  So I ripped out the four blocks that were wrong.  This morning I re-sewed the blocks and then put the crazy bear on the backing fabric. This fabric is fun with lots of little critters in bright colors.  Now to get it sandwiched and quilted.

New Baby Quilt

Last week I decided that I needed to start on this new grand baby's quilt even if he or she wouldn't let us know what colors to use. So my daughter and I decided to use the greens and browns that she has in her bedroom. The baby will be staying there for the foreseeable future.

So many patterns and layouts where out there and so many opinions were given that I chose to use combine some I liked and make my own.  Can you tell from this first picture what I am doing? Do you like the colors?

Further progress as I started cutting up the fabric.

And then put together with the nine patches and half triangles.  Can you figure it out?

Flimsy Friday

Today I am finishing up the birthday place mats that are in the basket waiting to sew down the bindings.  Thought I would watch some of the waiting shows on the DVR that have accumulated from all the travel I had been doing. 

On Wednesday it was my daughter's birthday and here is a picture of hers that I sent.

Next week it is my favorite grandson's birthday - actually my only grandsons.

And the back of his, since he is a budding chef and wants to open a restaurant when he is older.  He also asked for another pillowcase and choose these fabrics when he went to the local quilt shop with me.  Obviously, he's not afraid to wear pink. 

It Just Takes Two

Finally got the first section of the Just Takes Two Quilt together. I am using the traditional red and white colors. Pleased with the results and glad that I am caught up to date now. It will be a busy quilt but it is in memory of my mother so want to continue and finish this one up.  You can click on the button on my blog to see how to follow the block of the month program. My Flimsy Friday

My Flimsy Friday plans changed this week. I didn't get to the sewing machine at all to work on the chicken quilt. However, it was for a good cause. My church is having a women's luncheon in May and I was wrapping silverware in napkins and tying with flower ribbons. I had to glue the flowers down to the tubes that the ribbon went through. Took a lot of time to make 250 of these.  This is a pile of about eighty of them.  The theme is "Bloom where you are Planted", thus the colorful flowers. Should be a fun lunch.

More Tweets

I finished up two more blocks in the My Tweets quilt and love the colors. Also found a couple more of the wild colors to use in the next block so that should be fun also.

I'm working on the baby quilt for my daughter's upcoming blessing this summer. Although with all the health issues she is having not sure she things blessing is the word in mind right now.  But this too shall pass!

I don't know why with the same camera the pictures look so different. The background is the same fabric.

Confused Retreat - Day 3

Today we got up late for a busy day here at Heritage Hills.  The club house allowed us to have an Upper Case Living [words for walls] party and it was hectic for the few hours we were there. Several people ordered so it kept Pat and I busy.  When we came home, Pat asked me to put up her expressions.

Sewing themes: and she has high, high walls and I had to get up on a really tall latter to  get them up.  She was a great assistant.

These were the two she wanted up. Then she wanted the heart chalk board by her sewing table. Unfortunately she cut the label off right out of the edge of the heart, so she had a patch job on that one.

After a nice lunch we went back to our sewing. There was a nice rain going on outside so we had no excuse to leave the machines.  Pat worked on her Dresden plates and I on the Patchwork blocks. Progress was made and then Pat fixed another nice dinner - pork chops and sauerkraut, baked potato and asparagus.

The design was was full as I packed up my machine after a great few days sewing. But alas I must return home - UFO's are awaiting me there.

Confused Quilters - Day 2

Last night Pat cooked a great dinner and we did some more sewing before retiring. I had a restless night but it must have been the flu. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

After a restless night [can't imagine why] we did some sewing this morning and had a quick lunch before heading out to shop.

After a brief stop to buy Pat shoes and me a new sweater [Pat's house is freezing] we went to Joann's.  Pat purchased some Kona cotton for another project and I got a box of pencils to do the shading on the flower blocks.

Pat drove us to Maitland [in the pouring rain] to pick up my sewing machine that I had dropped off for repairs.  She looked for some material for a smocking class she is taking to make her granddaughter a dress. I got some extra cuts to for a sand rose quilt I am making for one of my daughters and a few baby prints to include in the quilt for the new grand baby.

We got to looking a diaper patterns to make the new type of waterproof pants and so we went back to Joann's to see what they had.  I found a great sewing chair on clearance that was a must have. It is so comfortable [we both sat and rolled about] and the back just fits so right in the small of the back. I am hopeful that it will help my back in the sewing room.  It is so cute and I love the red.

We stopped for coffee and pastry and came to rest before having a wonderful chicken  salad Pat fixed. She is really a great cook.  Now a few more blocks before bed.

CONFUSED RETREAT 2012, PART 1

Hi!  I'm Pat, guest blogger on Carol's blog today.  Carol is here with me, and we are having a several day sewing retreat at my house.  My DH is out of town, so it's just us.  Today we decided to post on each other's blogs.

Carol, as you know if you follow her blog, is very ambitious.  Her fingers are NEVER still.  She gets LOTS done.  Me?  Not so much.  Hey it's my house, I have dogs to care for, etc.  That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Carol set up shop in my DH's office.  He's not here, and the desk was almost clear, my studio is small, so....................

But it's just a quick step away to my studio, where we both cut and pressed.  Sharing, who knew?

Carol's progress, this morning.  She's working on Patchwork Party blocks from 2007 and Scrappy Dresden Plates.  Time for lunch!

We decided to go to downtown Winter Garden, to check out a quilt shop and have lunch.  Lunch was first, at the French Bakery, on the patio.  Yum!  Now across the street to the quilt shop.

Nancy's Quilt Shop, here we come.  Nancy recently moved to these new digs.  She was formerly allocated space in her family's bowling alley.  While it was unique to go quilt shopping in a bowling alley, her new shop is much nicer!

After shopping we had planned to go back to the bakery for dessert.  However, it was pouring rain when we came out so we just headed to the car, and had coffee back here.

Much more was accomplished this afternoon (more on that, next post).  My design wall is quickly filling up with our progress!

BTW, we also walked 3 miles this morning, so we fit in exercise too!  Perhaps a dip in the hot tub is in order this evening.  We'll see.  Right now we are wine-ding down.  Super day!

Me?  I worked on my Twist n' Stitch quilt.  It's a lot like the Twister ruler, but you can make multiple sizes from one ruler.  I also started my Scrappy Dresden quilt too.  Carol is posting about that (or something) over at my blog:

Dear Jane Signature Swap

It is time for the annual signature swap in the Dear Jane group.  There are forty nine of us participating this year in the swap. Everyone puts their name and place where they live with the date. Some embroider emblems or pictures.  I put a stamp picture of two friends holding hands colored by permanent ink.  Using some sewing fabric for most of them and some floral fabric for others. 

They were mailed out to the swap hostess today.  It will be nice to see when I get the return package to look at all the places around the world that they come from.

 Always so much fun.

Easter 2012

Spent the morning at church with daughter Tracey and family. Made and loved our Easter ham dinner.  Then afterward I drove back to Knoxville to have a late dinner with daughter Grace.

Tracey is starting to feel somewhat better from the pinched nerve in her back and since it is spring break this week hopefully will be able to drive next week.

Hope everyone had a great Easter celebrating our Lord and Savior and being with family.

Sister Day 2012

Each year my sisters celebrate my Mother's birthday April 7th as our sister day. Mom would have been 99 this year and we still miss her, she was truly an "amazing Grace".

This Saturday a celebration of life service will be held for my brother-in-law Bob so it will be especially touching for all Of us. Sorry Linda that we couldn't be there with you aall.

National Quilt Day Present

My Friendship Group had a  National Quilting Day Exchange. I received my gift yesterday.  I lovely hand made notebook in a pretty paisley print with a pen, pencil, and paper inside.  Also a felt purse, charm of the Eiffel tower, a bunny and some nice hand made cards.  A truly wonderful quilting day gift.

Flimsy Friday Finish

When I went to my friend Pat's this week, I finished the binding on the bow tie runner and used some of her buttons to complete the the top. I was missing some of the colors but it sure is long on the table. However, when the family comes and I pull out both leaves in the table it will look nice.

And the Winner IS

GREEN - The baby would not cooperate and had its little legs crossed very tightly with the cord in between.  So nothing showed no matter what the nurse tried to do to get him or her to move.  So we don't know yet.

Lucky Christine Z from Texas is the winner of the contest for this month.  We will try again next visit to see if this grand baby will let us know.  I think he/she is toying with us since we want to know this time.  Maybe we will have to wait to August and be surprised like the other times.  Tease Tease.

National Quilt Day & Flimsy Friday

I actually started yesterday, Friday, on the bow tie quilt by sandwiching and did a few stitches on the machine. Planned on stitching in the ditch around the squares to start. However did not get as much done as I thought yesterday.

Today I had to bake as my three E's are coming for a visit. So got my bread done and then started on cookies and the chocolate cupcakes for Emma's 13th birthday tomorrow. Will post a picture later.

So got to finish the bow tie quilt from a 2009 swap with the Friendship group.  Here is the progress this afternoon. Managed to get the binding on and will do that later this week.  I plan to put a button in the middle of each bow ties.

WIP Wednesday

Today I finished a mug rug for a friend in London.  She wanted to join in on the owl parade.  Her alma mater has burgendy for colors and owls as the mascot, so here she is.

And since she loves to travel I used this bright print on the back. Hope she likes it.

New Contest

If you have been following my posts you know that I am expecting a new grand baby this summer.  My daughter is eighteen weeks now and at the end of March we will have an ultra sound to determine what the sex is on this new blessing.

I am making two dear Jane quilts - one in civil war fabric and one in for my granddaughter Amber. I realized that I should put a pink and blue block in her scrappy dear Jane.

After I made them I thought why not a contest. So please enter your your vote. After the ultra sound is done I will randomly pick the winner from the right choice entries.  A nice half yard of fabric in the right color.  Please spread the word on your blogs and help me build up my followers.  Thanks you.

Owls have come to Our house

My daughter is adding some decorations to the grand daughters room.   She is putting up blue and brown circles and stars on the walls.  And some blue and brown Owls. The girls are into owls.  So when I visited my friend Pat's local quilt store a few weeks ago I found this owl print.  I guess everyone is into owls this year. 

I purchased enough fabric to make each of the three girls a pillowcase for the new room.

So when I joined in the online quilt groups row by row swap again this year I decided to do Owls for my main theme.  The girls will either get a wall hanging or a quilt for their room.  Hope they aren't tired of owls before this is done.

This is my starter row.  It will be passed to six other ladies for them to add a row to the quilt.  It is winging its way to the first person on the list today but since they only fly at night it will be awhile until they come home again.
